This past Saturday, Rex, Kurt and I went over to Flying M (AL32) for a lunch fly-in. It used to be a regular event when John Meyers owned the property, and seems destined to be that way again now that the new owner has become comfortable with the property.
There was, however, one incident at the event. A RV pilot lost control of his machine on landing and folded up the nose-wheel. He was not hurt, but the machine suffered a fair amount of damage. Winds were very strong and gusty Saturday, and we all noticed some odd performance issues on both the landing and take-off for the return home.
Lunch was fried chicken with beans, slaw and potato salad. There was also some pretty good banana pudding.
A "nice outing" as my dad would have said. Flying M is a beautiful place, although the topography does not lend well to high winds. I had quite a time achieving a good climb-out but I was also full of fuel and fried chicken. The roller coaster ride home was a treat and my landing at 4A4 would rival any Gyro at 5 knots estimated ground-speed. I wasn't looking at my panel... in fact I had my eyes closed.
Looks like a nice place.
