Tom Duncan cross country?

I heard that Tom Duncan flew his Tango on a 160 mile cross country flight in Texas..

I would love to have more details, Tom is really showing that the Yamaha engine is a viable alternative to the rotax 9 series on  gyros.

Good for you Tom!!

Tom's Trip

Tom went to the Dublin, Texas St. Patrick's Day gyro event, an event which he could easily be considered the founder.  It was a 161 mile, each way cross-country with some detours around class B & C airspace.  I believe he flew around 75-80mph indicated and burned 4 gallons per hour at fairly low altitude.  Perhaps he'll chime in with more precise details.  I believe there was a midway stop each way.

Trips

Jon, your details are spot on. In January I flew over 320 miles round trip in one day. I had a 40 mph head wind on the return and had to cruise at 90 mph and 7800 rpm, burning 5.5 gph. At 7200 rpm and 75 to 80 mph the burn rate is 4 to 4.2 gph.

This weekend

My TangoGyro is really an excellent cross country machine. I flew from Lockhart 50R to San Geronimo 8T8 on Saturday a 1.3 hour flight 77 miles.  I flew further south to Castroville, KCVB for of fuel and from there around the south side of San Antonio back to 50R 91.6 miles in 1.2 hours with a Tait wiring.
