"The Big Hangar" at Cedartown

We may now start moving "stuff" into the big hangar at Cedartown. There is no power yet, but the roof has been repaired and the building is secure. The existing hangars will be available until there is power and my expectation is that we will not be pushed to move out with any great urgency.

I am going to start moving my things over as soon as time permits.

Power-Power-Power

OK...we have power and limited lighting.  The outlets all work, excepting that a few need mud-wasp nests cleaned out of the ground leg.

There are two kinds of house lights.  The 8' florescents and the large Mercury Vapor lamps.  The former are controlled by the 3 switches next to (South of) the entry door.  The later are controlled by two switches on the support columns on the West side of the hangar.  Follow the roof support West, and the switch for the two lights on that beam are on the wall column at about the 5' level.  There are two switches, one for each bank of 2 lights.  3 of the 4 lights are operating at the moment.

The Mercury Vapor lights take a few minutes to light up get to full brightness.  DO NOT try flipping the switch on and off to get them to light.  If you turn the switch OFF, you should wait AT LEAST 5 MINUTES before turning it back on.  These lights work best when allowed to cool down before attempting a restart.

Only one florescent light works at the moment.  I have changed several bulbs with no joy, and it is clear that most of the ballasts are shot.

Please do not mess with the breaker box.  The breakers we need are on and the ones that are off should remain off.  I will label the breakers when I get time.

Water is next.  It looks like we will at least have a local hose bib, and perhaps a couple.

Update

I changed out some bulbs in the florescent fixtures the other day.  No joy.  In fact, the on that was working stopped.  It may be that other lights on that circuit have bad ballasts and popped the breaker.

Chuck, the Airport Manager, said he'd get a work order to get the county to replace the ballasts, bulbs and fixtures for the florescents as needed.  It won't be quick, but it won't cost us.

No news yet on the water.

Any more room for additional Gyros?

How many more can be accommodated?

Thanks

Tony

Ummm....Several

The more we organize, the more room we have.  We don't know the final capacity number yet.  Some of the machines in there now are temporary as well and should be leaving after Bensen Days.  There is also an option to put my Bonanza in another hangar, making room for several more machines, should that turn out to make good sense.

What's the cost for Space?

For an additional gyro?

Let There Be Light

The county sent around a maintenance man with a lift and changed out all the "formerly florescent" bulbs with the new LED style.  The fixtures remain the same, but the ballasts are not connected.  A good thing, in that it was a VERY burned-up ballast that was blowing the breakers.

There is now significant light in the hangar (as pictured).  The Southernmost two swiches from the door control the 6 LED fixtures.  One switch controls two fixtures, the Southeast and Northeast locations.  The middle switch controls the "other four fixtures."

I'm still not sure what the Northernmost switch does, but at least it doesn't pop breakers.  Perhaps it turns on the outside light....if the darkness sensor works.  The outslde light bulbs have been replaced with no joy, but the sensors could be, and are most likely, bad.

Note that this picture is with the hangar doors closed.

Thumbs up!

Looks great!   All you need now is a couch and a big screen TV for gyro videos!

And...

A Frig and a grill...

We have it!

We've got more refrigerators than you can shake a cyclic at.  Two grills as well.  One gas, on charcoal.

...and we really don't need a TV.  This hangar has a great view of the runway for LIVE gyros.

Good lights and room to grow for Tony

Awesome Jon!  Looks great with good... working... lights.  And with the door closed even!

The outdoor lights would be great to  get working too.

Tony - There's room for ya, and the rent is very good.  When you moving in?

Well, good question...

So I was going to get an ultralight, but no room in hangar and more space needed. I found a hangar for $195/month, but then I realized for the $195/mo I could make payments on a new gyro kit and net $155/mo in the big hangar. So that has brought me back to getting a gyro.

So, now I am looking for a kit... Single place..

Outside Lights

The light over the door is now working...more or less.  It is operated by the first (Northernmost) switch by the door.  Now we know what that switch does.  The door light has a light sensor and is supposed to only turn on at night.  The light sensor is stuck on, so it comes on anytime the switch is on.  It is a mercury-vapor light, so it takes time to come on.

The other light over the main hangar door is still inoperative.  It should be on all them time and cycled by a light sensor.  The county changed the bulb, but not the sensor.  It is probably the sensor.  Eventually, they'll get it sorted.

Sport Copter

It's a little to open air for me. Be nice if it had an instrument panel and windscreen, etc.

Thanks...

Scott Essex
add on

You can always add that, been done many time before. I even had a pod and windshield i could put on my dominator in the winter and pull it off for summer..

You could get a Tango 1 kit...or one already built..
