An announcement was made at a recent AOPA Fly-In that the FAA will be shortly issuing a proposed rule change for Light Sport Aircraft. The significance to gyros is primarily the weight increase to 3600 pounds. It is the rule change we have been hearing about for some time now. This will, among other things, allow the SparrowHawk to be flown legally by Sport Pilots as well as a few heavy machines. It also opens up a lot of fixed-wing aircraft for Sport Pilots that were previously off-limits. This should give a reasonable boost to General Aviation once it get finalized.
